Jesus + Ultimate Trust
/By: Jack Flanagan
Learning to trust the Lord through the years is a lifelong process. This trust is primarily based upon our relationship with Jesus. As we deepen in our daily prayer and our awareness that we are a Son or Daughter of Abba Father, our trust likewise deepens. And as we find ourselves in tight spots that seem beyond our ability to deal with and turn to Him for help, we find Him with us, giving grace to see us through.
And thankfully, we have many biblical examples of trust in God, beginning with Abraham. And we are offered many maxims and proverbs encouraging trust in the Lord. He really wants us to learn how to trust Him with all our heart.
It seems to me that the ultimate example and expression of trust is Jesus Christ, in the garden of Gethsemane prior to His crucifixion:
"And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, "Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done." (Lk. 22.41) His posture, his humble heart-cry prayer brought Him into the Father's presence, His trust availing Him His Father's help!
Jesus Christ, thank you for your ultimate expression and example of trust in your Father's plan. By your trust and your obedience, you won our redemption. All praise to You.
We want to follow in your steps, Lord Jesus. Help us to trust you more deeply in all the places you have us. You are a generous God, giving your children all we need. We trust in you! Thanks be to God!
