Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches (specifically to us , The Word of God, in 2026)

I think we're all noticing that our numbers are quite small, we're pretty old, we sit down a lot more often than we used to,and we're pretty aware that our time on earth won't go on forever. So what are God's plans for us now at this stage of our lives? As I've been thinking about this, I'm experiencing a lot of gratitude for all God has been doing in us over the past 59 years or so. God grabbed hold of us when we were young and gave us a life filled with purpose and meaning. He's allowed us to share in His mission of helping people come to know Him in a deeply personal way. He's taught us how to truly worship Him. We each have a personal relationship with Him. We've learned to value and love our Christian brothers and sisters from different denominations.He's helped us to treasure His word in Scripture. God has given us a common life filled with wonderful brothers and sisters, who love God as much as we do.The Word of God is our "home base" from which we can go out and share His goodness.We help each other, care for each other, learn from each other.We are passionately, intentionally living our lives for God!
So now we're saying," What's next , God? What do you want us to be doing now? How shall we use our time and energy as mostly 70+ yr olds who love you tremendously and want to keep sharing your love with others?" I'm writing this piece now to ask you to pray, reflect, and really seek God. At the next prayer meeting, Sept 13, we're hoping to start a time of sharing about what God's showing us along this line. At our leadership meeting the other day we got kind of excited as we started discussing some possibilities. Some of the ideas include working with other ministries, like Sounds of the City, who share our ecumenical vision. We might also increase our relationship with Love Washtenaw. In a few weeks a former Mission Christ member, Beth Spizarny, is going to come share some of the evangelistic outreach she's involved in now. We could consider reaching out more to local nursing homes. We already take advantage of our 'home base' mentality as we reach out as individuals to our families,churches, neighborhoods and ministries. If the 7 of us at the leadership Team meeting were coming up with all sorts of ideas, just think how exciting this will be as our whole body seeks the Lord for His plans for us.
I'd like to close with some thought provoking questions Keith suggested we consider as we seek the Lord. He recommends asking God:
Is there something for us to persevere in
to complete
to pass on to the next generation
to encourage others in
to participate in
to give our heart and resources to?
So, Friends, let's turn to our dear Lord and seek His direction for this next stage of our lives. Should be great!
